Teaching

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up" - Pablo Picasso

*I recently read through my teaching philosophy and was encouraged to see how my experiences with Making as an educational practice have started to change the way I see education!

Add on to Philosophy- Plato 1.1

Innovation occurs out of combining ones own field of knowledge with an unfamiliar problem. Instead of finding ways to bring creativity to what students are interested in , help students identify problems and allow students to struggle to find a working solution. Doing something as an amateur, reveals intricasy that one would otherwise never see. By not struggleing, students won't know what they don't know. How will students find inovative solutions, if they don't know how to find questions?

Original Teaching Philosophy-  Plato 1.0

I believe that trust, unity, and understanding can develop through reciprocal education between teacher and student. Teachers should serve as a resource to further the students' interests and should seek tangible ways to incorporate application of art into authentic experiences.

I see the creative process itself as the “Art.”  Student's artwork must come from within, not merely the replication of a famous artist's work or teacher example. Thoughtful and intentional meaning should be the bedrock from which the artist builds. The art product is merely proof that organized and deliberate creativity was channeled by the student. I plan to stress not just the mastering of various mediums, but using those mediums as tools for communication. The successful communication of the artist’s work is most important.
